The American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) collaborated with the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS), the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and CECity, a provider of cloud-based platforms for performance improvement, continuing medical education, continuous professional development, Maintenance of Certification and quality reporting.
Their Choosing Wisely activities included the development of two webinars targeting referring physicians and doctors performing nuclear imaging. A Web-based application using CECity’s register was created to capture data elements that comprise three Appropriate Use Criteria Physician Quality Reporting System (AUC PQRS) measures for nine months. The application was housed on the CECity MedConcert platform to allow for multi-stakeholder collaboration, communication across practice settings and the use of social media tools. This data, paired with ASNC’s needs assessment, was used to define the rate of inappropriate referrals and develop meaningful interventions for improvement, which was then linked from the application as well as disseminated by ASNC and MMS.
The purpose of this application was to enable peer-driven quality improvement, create communities of learners and enable communication among physicians across specialties and their health care teams. Physicians were also encouraged to submit this data to Medicare for PQRS so they were eligible for an incentive payment. ASNC and MMS also developed a patient-friendly website about nuclear cardiac imaging.
