The Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI) and the Minnesota Health Action Group (Action Group) both saw the value of the Choosing Wisely® campaign as a conduit to facilitate discussions among providers, employers and patients on unwarranted medical procedures. Their joint work under this grant allowed them to partner together to accelerate implementation of the campaign across Minnesota.
The two groups aligned with another ABIM Foundation grantee, the Minnesota Medical Association, to broaden their collective reach.
Results of this work included:
- the creation and distribution of Public Service Announcements
- coverage in health care and consumer/business media
The Action Group included Choosing Wisely materials in its Patient Safety and Quality toolkit for employers, the programs for its annual Employer Leadership Summit, its quarterly employer newsletter and employer open enrollment meetings and wellness fairs.
ICSI surveyed members on awareness, presented webinars to providers and is incorporating Choosing Wisely presentations in its annual health care conference. They also created a tutorial to help clinicians access and use Choosing Wisely and Consumer Reports materials, and published updates in its monthly newsletter. ICSI included the Choosing Wisely logo in its clinical evidence-based guidelines where campaign recommendations are in alignment.
