Texas Medical Association
The Texas Medical Association plans to build a consortium that will target the largest state specialty societies and county medical societies, and the state’s osteopaths. As part of the invitation to join the consortium, TMA will offer electronic resources including:
- promotional materials;
- a webinar with CME;
- an overview presentation for leadership; and,
- survey summaries of the Choosing Wisely® campaign in Texas.
Participants will be encouraged to promote Choosing Wisely throughout their organizations, provide feedback on when materials are used and by how many, and assist in disseminating online survey links to medical society membership. Three physician surveys are anticipated.
Physician thought leaders, consisting of spokespeople, advocates and early adopters of the society recommendations, will be brought together in an Inter-Council Choosing Wisely Task Force. They will focus on creating strategies to overcome barriers to implementing the Choosing Wisely campaign and developing communication tools. Some of the tools and promotional aids the group will create include:
- an introductory video;
- a monthly electronic Choosing Wisely publication;
- a patient-based print campaign; and
- an implementation tool for physicians.
The implementation tool will focus on which Choosing Wisely lists are most relevant and perform a quick gap analysis on which interventions might result in the greatest impact on a patient’s care. The tool will enable physicians to quickly evaluate how they are performing against a self-selected list.
Early adopters will also receive technical assistance and participate in a learning collaborative. The association will use existing communications vehicles such as media, social media, internal publications and meetings to promote Choosing Wisely, and will also engage patient advocacy groups and business and community leaders.
