As the national medical specialty society representing emergency medicine, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) is proud to be a partner in the Choosing Wisely Campaign. Emergency physicians are key decision-makers who mobilize resources and coordinate care for their patients. They represent four percent of America’s doctors, but provide care for 11 percent of all outpatient visits and 28 percent of all acute care visits. Founded in 1968, ACEP has promoted the highest quality of emergency care and is the leading advocate for emergency physicians, their patients, and the public. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, ACEP has more than 32,000 members and 53 chapters representing each state, as well as Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. A Government Services Chapter represents emergency physicians employed by military branches and other government agencies. Emergency physicians are recognized and valued for their commitment to high quality patient care, teaching, leadership, research and innovation. Emergency medicine is a valued and essential public service.
