American Society of Hematology

Representing approximately 14,000 members from nearly 100 countries, the American Society of Hematology (ASH) is the world’s largest professional society of clinicians and scientists dedicated to furthering the understanding, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders affecting the blood. For more than 50 years, the Society has led the development of hematology as a discipline by promoting research, patient care, education, training and advocacy in hematology. One of ASH’s core values is to promote the highest quality care of patients with hematologic diseases. Accordingly, ASH ensures that the practice of hematology is characterized by high professional standards, reliance on evidence and promotion of awareness and appreciation of the contribution of hematologists to the health care system. As part of this effort, ASH supports the Choosing Wisely® campaign and applauds its evidence-based approach to creating a dialogue about the use of health care resources in the United States.
