COVID-19 April Update

April 22, 2020

Visit the Choosing Wisely COVID-19 Update page for more information and resources from our partner societies and employer/patient organizations.

Dear Choosing Wisely community,

We want to wish all of you well during this challenging time.

Although we are not publishing a regular edition of the Updates From the Field newsletter this month, we want to ensure that you know that we are making COVID-19 resources from our partners available on the Choosing Wisely website.

These resources include:

  • an Action Brief from the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions that discusses the role of shared decision making and the Choosing Wisely “5 Questions” in helping individuals make treatment decisions related to COVID-19
  • a table from the American Society for Health-System Pharmacists that evaluates the evidence for proposed treatments for people with COVID-19
  • tools and resources from the Infectious Disease Society of America, the American College of Physicians and the Society of Hospital Medicine to help physicians in managing responses to COVID-19
  • guidance on limiting unnecessary blood transfusions from the American Society of Hematology and the American Association of Blood Banks

We are also continuing to post resources on our Workplace site. You can join the Workplace group by filling out this form.

Thanks as always for your inspiring and courageous leadership at this demanding time.  The core principles of Choosing Wisely have never been more important.

Sincerely,

Richard J. Baron, MD, MACP
